Last night, Dean and I played LnL: BoH again, this time tackling the Alamo scenario (based on the final battle scene from "Saving Private Ryan." I took the Americans again, and faced a very tough situation. My objective was to keep the Germans from crossing a bridge for at least 5 turns (the scenario has a variable end point). I only had about 4-5 squads and one ordnance weapon to oppose numerous squads and three vehicles (including a Tiger tank).
Ultimately I lost the game--the Germans were able to brush me aside and take the bridge. But a lot of it was luck. I attempted to destroy tanks a total of 7 times--twice with the bazooka, three times with close assault, and twice with the last-minute air attack on the bridge itself. Of those, only one worked--the bazooka took out the PzIII. I just got bad luck on most of the other rolls--couldn't pass the morale check in order to close assault, or rolled poorly on the attack. It was particularly annoying with the air assault--they have good firepower!
This was a fun scenario, though. I think next time we're going to tackle one of the scenarios that's more of a straight-up fight. We're also both looking forward to the reprint of "Not One Step Back," since we both love the eastern front.
