Borodino 1812 S&T issue 32 Part Two (solo)

First Turn

French Phase

The stream running in front of the redoubt proved to be annoying, as this hindered a quick move to the left of the redoubt, and moving to the right meant going around the end of the stream. It also meant going around the clumps of forest, which are impassable to all units. In the end, I moved most units (as my main thrust) to the left to try and get round the side of the redoubt, and moved 2 units to the right, more as a diversionary tactic, in the hope of dragging precious Russian forces out of the fight with my main thrust.

Russian Phase

Russian units nearest the redoubt converge to form a defensive formation. Th rest of the un-frozen units start moving towards the redoubt. Note the nice three heavy weight infantry units coming up behind the redoubt. These guys were to prove essential to the redoubt defense.

Second Turn

French Phase

The French cavalry cross the stream and attack the solitary Russian cavalry unit, causing it to retreat. The diversionary cavalry units continue up the right flank while 2 more units arrive on scene.

Russian Phase

The heavy weight infantry units arrive and the Russians form a good defensive line to their right. To their left, a 5-4 infantry units positions himself strategically with one hex between himself and some woods on one side and on the other side, one hex from a friendly unit. Because of the ZOC rules, any unit entering a ZOC of an enemy unit must stop and cannot leave unless as a result of combat. This unit has formed quite a useful blocking stance, until more units can help bolster the defences.
