Connections 2013: 22-25 July in Dayton Ohio

Connections 2013 will be held 22 through 25 July 2013 at the Tec^Edge, Dayton, Ohio – and virtually worldwide.

Connections is the only national conference dedicated specifically to wargaming. Since 1993 Connections has worked to advance and preserve the art, science and application of wargaming by bringing together all elements of the field (military, commercial and academic) so that practitioners can exchange information on achievements, best practices and needs.

On site participation in Connections is, and has always been, open only to contributors to the field of wargaming; military, government, defense contractor, academic, and recreational.*  In response to sequestration Connections  2013 has been able to make much of its content available through a limited number of VTC sites and to any number of individuals calling in.  Those calling in do not need to be practitioners in the field. Visit the Connections web site to learn which elements are available virtually.

In keeping it’s theme, Enhancing The Effectiveness of Wargaming Support to Planning, Programing and Budgeting,” Connections 2013 will examine methods to wargame future defense environments, enhance adjudication of future systems and improve the analysis of wargame outcomes. We will explore this theme through keynotes, speaker panels, three working groups, demos and a Game Lab provided by NATO. Still, many believe the most valuable element of Connections is the chance to meet leaders from across the spectrum of wargaming.

Featuring:

  • Dr Thomas Allen, Dep Director, Studies & Analysis, Joint Staff - Via VTC
  • Peter Perla, author: “The Art of Wargaming”
  • CDR Phil Pournelle, OSD/Office of Net Assessment
  • Game night, a chance to actually play some outstanding games, both military and commercial.

* Connections does define “contributor” broadly and welcomes everyone from the most senior director to the newly assigned lieutenant, the wargame publisher to the play tester.
