Up until a few years ago I was almost exclusively a miniature wargamer. Then in 2008 disaster struck twice, a raging house fire destroyed most of the  miniatures I had taken my lifetime to paint and I was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.. I am no longer capable of painting nor can I handle to many small counters at a sitting. Then I rediscovered block games and found my wargaming niche.Since then I collect block games voraciously and have throughly enjoy them. Favorites include the Command and Colors Ancient series as well  the newer Commands and Colors Napoleonic series, Asia and Europe Engulfed and the FAB seriers by GMT and several from Columbia  as well as  Strike of the Eagle ffrom Ac ademy. Wargames fill mydays now that I am pretty much homebound, I manage to get out and game onse every two weeks when my wife as able to transport me with the Asheville Fistorical Wargamers group which is something I often look forward to doing.

Thanks for all the encourgement, Id enjoy gettng  a game of AE in, I've found the wargameroom module is pretty good for the rusty/new players of AE.

Actually the worst part of the fire was not knowing if all the cats survived , two we never saw again. I hope they just went and found  new families to live with. The second worst part was realizing we were homeless. Being unable to work but not colllecting disability was espeially tough on my wife who worked two jobs to support us. Im a lucky man too have her.

Bravo for you. Carry on the good fight in what ever form you may I say Mark!

If you have the time share some more with us about which games you like  and why. Perhaps some of your experiences or insights? I own FAB Bulge but have not had the pleasure to play it yet.

I am new to block gaming. I have enjoyed Sekigahara and if you like that period would recommend it to you.

I along with Eric also am eager to play Asia Engulfed, which alas will need to be on VASSAL as I traded it recently.

Did your insurance cover your at least part miniatures loss?  That must have been heart breaking to witness. Ania has a good suggestion with VASSAL and ZunTzu, as well as touch pad games on the iPad.

Best Regards

Kevin

Mark, it's great you've been able to transition from one genre you enjoy to another, despite you disability.  I'll bet with your "homebound" time you've been able to translate that into some real expertise in block game strategy!  Your favorites sure sound enticing--I've been a fan of STRIKE OF THE EAGLE as well as the Columbia block games.  EUROPE ENGULFED and ASIA ENGULFED are titles I haven't tried yet...but I will have to soon!
