My wife and I went Christmas shopping last Monday. After a successful day of getting all the presents we needed to get, my wife asked me what I wanted for Christmas.
I told her I was happy with Picket Duty as my Christmas present, but she thought this was not enough.
After a lot of thought, I said to her that I cannot think of anything that I need, other than another game that I have really really really wanted for ages, but it was a little pricey.
She said to order it, so I did, and Field Commander Napoleon arrived today, so I have two games to open over Christmas (this does not include Hunters and Where There Is Discord, which should arrive anyday!)
So have you got any games coming to you for Christmas that you know about? If so what are they?
My 2014 resolution is to stop buying games. I have a lot on pre-order, but only a few will happen next year, but I am not counting them as I ordered them this year.
I have come to the conclusion that I really have the games I want, and there is not much else out there that is attractive to me, so I have decided it is time to stop buying and really get my head down and get playing!
I have played a lot this year, but I want to play even more, and to start playing more of the games that I have bought and then left on the shelves collecting dust.
Whether I can ever resist the temptation, remains to be seen....lmao
Do you have a New Years Resolution? If so, do tell!
Comment
I have that game as I bought it earlier this year (1st edition), but I have yet to play it (hence my resolution), but it looks a really good game.
The dice tower sounds cool.
That reminds me, I need to get some DVG counter trays.
My wife has me a new translucent chessex dice tower. I saw a solitaire game that I thought was interesting. Struggle for the Galactic Empire (http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/41612/struggle-for-the-galac...)
I also have a stack of PC games I want to play.....
I also have other hobbies which have suffered this past year, which I would like to get back to. One is model making, as I still have 2 models which remain unfinished, so as well as playing more, i will be doing my model making and sorting out my stamp collection.
I wish I did not need to sleep...ha ha ha....I would have loads of time then!
Good purchase Wayne. It would be good to find out what you think of the game.
I have so many games that I have bought and just stored away, it is scary. But this past year has seen me play the most games ever in a year, and in 2014 I want to play more. It will also have the benefit of weeding out games that are maybe not for me, so I can sell and use the money to buy others.
OK Roger along the lines of buying less and playing more...IN THE NEXT YEAR! I just ordered Road to Cheren. Your input was the ultimate sway factor for me.
Jason, I enjoy the same things as you, as it gives me encouragement and interest to buy certain games.
And fair point, it does keep the hobby alive, which is why I still have 15 games on pre-order, and out of that 15, I suspect 5 or 6 will get published next year.
Mind you, I cannot guarantee I will be able to stick to my resolution if and absolute gem comes up for sale, but the whole idea is to play the ones I have bought and buy less.
The problem I have is that I enjoy reading the contributions of others as they are discovering, playing, and learning the games. It makes me want to buy the games. Expensive habit I guess but it adds an element of interest. Keeps me interested in the hobby. This also keeps the hobby alive. I guess I'll just have to go on buying games as I am able.
Piggy back the idea is fine by me. I had noticed some one on BGG had posted something similar on the wargaem forum, so I probably piggy-backed his idea!
Nice additional resolution Wayne.
I like what Santa is bringing you too.
Since I got back into gaming in 2009, I have bought a lot of games, playing catch up really on the many years I have missed, and I have sold quite a few in that time too, as I have decided what I like and what I do not like.
I have played some of them, but it is only in the past year I have really sat down and played a lot of the games I had bought (this also stopped my wife from saying "you never play these games...nag nag nag"....lmao), but there are still a lot unplayed, and this I aim to rectify.
Keeping my pre-orders will be nice though,as it means I will still get some new games throughout the year, probably 4 or 5.
I just hope I can resist temptation...lol
