Turn 5 saw the last units from the LC's disembark. The Marines were able to finally root out the last squad from the remaining buildings, and technically have won the scenario by the end of turn 5. However, the hill at the back of the island still has a large group of dug-in Japanese defenders. The one hold-out in the Japanese bunker has decided to move back through the jungle to positions on the hill with its MMG. The death toll so far has been tremendous. The Marines have lost 8 squads (33% of its force), two BAR gunners, and 2 leaders. These losses do not include the several reduced squads still on the board. The Japanese loses were worse, but there are still several platoons determined to fight it out in the hills.

Next turn (Turn 6) the Marines will have additional air support, and we will see if bombing runs will be able to eliminate some of the deadly MMG's.

This is a bloody fight, very similar to the actual campaign. These two islands were just a taste of what was to come for the Marines and Army units in the Pacific theater.

Hi Mark;

I converted the ASL mini-campaign to ATS, Advanced Tobruk System. I play both, but tend to like ATS better. All the game play and simulation, but without the zillion page rulebook and tediousness of some of the rules (my opinion at least).

Wow, I just got done reading an article on Gavutu Tanambogo. What a coincidence. This looks like the ASL map but I don't recognize the counters. What game are you playing?
