We got into a discussion today over her favorite movies - she prefers war and action movies, as well as romantic screwball type comedies.

In no order:

She Wore a Yellow Ribbon
Heartbreak Ridge
A Bridge Too Far
Independence Day
Last Samauri
Master and Commander
Memphis Belle
Operation Petticoat

(She also has a thing for Godzilla...).

Or know what a cake from Boston means....

Twelve O'Clock High is excellent, and one that I recommend for business types. Battle of the Bulge was one of my favorite movies when I was younger. Even now I use Robert Shaw's speech about the cake from Boston to illustrate why the Allies won World War II.

Unfortunately few of my students have seen either one.

I would add Twelve O'Clock High - Battle of the Bulge for the panzertruppen scenes....

Wow, I own an awful lot of these movies! I'd like to add
The Enemy Below
Action in the North Atlantic
Battle of the Bulge
Das Boot
What Price Glory

I agree about Warriors. I think I've seen all of them now, at least once, and they are quite good, and very visually impressive.

Good list. I've recently been watching the Warriors series on Military History Channel. Highly recommended.

Earth vs. Flying Saucers always scared the crap out of me as a kid!

Yeah - Katie would add "Rome" and "Aliens" and "Aliens 3". She didn't consider "Rome" since it was a miniseries.

Bored by the Rings was her world view. After 13 years of marriage I finally got her to watch "Zulu".

I haven't seen "Gorgo" in ages! "Them!" is also a classic. And some of the best lines IMO come out of "Aliens."

I've never seen "Cromwell" and while I have the DVD of "The Last Samurai" I haven't gotten around to watching it yet.

I'll also add:

Ben Hur
The Lord of the Rings Trilogy
Horatio Hornblower
Damn the Defiant
Zulu Dawn
War of the Worlds (the 50s version of course)
The 5th Element
Sink the Bismark
The Crossing

And in addition to the Band of Brothers miniseries I'll add "Rome," both seasons & "I Claudius."
