Making Strides on Berg's "Basic Library"

A few years ago I decided to collect a copy of every game mentioned in Berg's "Basic Library" of wargames as it appeared in S&T/SPI's book: Wargame Design. I was lucky this summer to find a copies of HS's Manassas, GDW's Crimea, and GS/R's The Battle of Britain without breaking the bank. I also snagged some inexpensive copies of GDW's 120 games, Choasium's Raiders and Traders, and AH Civilization (with the expansion card set).

Now I have my sights on a copy of La Bataille de la Moscow, but I'm unsure if I want to get the Marshal Enterprises, GDW or the CoA edition......   I like the simple rules of the early editions. ME's has a "cream" color map which would be easier to look at than the white GDW board, but the latter is in "four colors". Of course, the new addition has all the cool counters and a lovely map, but is it as playable as the early editions? It has been my experience that newer games are unnecessarily complicated.

Feedback? Anyone?

Sounds like a pretty interesting quest.  I haven't seen the list, yet.  Are you planning on playing these games as well?

As to the version, just reviewing BGG, I'd have to say to pick the CoA edition.  I generally love the look of GDW games, but their spare counter design does nothing to evoke the flavor of the time period.  The counters look like they could easily be dropped into "Invasion Earth."
