On this day (3rd of September), 72 years ago, Britain and France declared  war on Nazi Germany. I guess you could say it was the start of the Second World War, even though it was more of a European conflict at this point.

And, 72 years ago tomorrow, would have be my Fathers 21st birthday. He was a Royal Marine serving on HMS Glasgow at the time, which was off the coast of Denmark. For him and everyone else on that ship, the war had started nearly a week before, as they had been frequently attacked by the Luftwaffe. What a nice 21st Birthday treat my Dad had...lol.

This is very true. Compared to our time in Afghanistan, World war 2 was short...lol

And September 2 was the 66th anniversary of the official end of World War II with the surrender of the Japanese.
