Just started the Barbarossa scenario of Red Star Rising. Very interesting game. It has a unique system.

One of the problems I'm seeing for Army Group Centre is the Pripyat Marshes. Can't take the tanks through the marshes. I'm sending 3PzGp and infantry north of the swamps toward Smolensk. However if I send 2PzGp that way, there will be a huge traffic jam so I'm taking 2PzGp south of the marshes through Kiev and moving north toward Smolensk. We'll see how that works. It's all a learning experience.

I try to remember Norman Schwarzkopf" dictum, "Haul a-- and bypass."

yea this is mouthwatering for the germen's lol i would go straight up to the river and use it as defense then swing south-use the black sea to backstop the rooskies/seal them in then go for moscow-very mobile-cool!

um the soviets are in trouble loli don't know the rules but the german's have easy access to n/s and east/west rail lines-they can just bypass/end run the south

I'm playing solitaire right now to learn the system and see more fully what strategies I need to follow. A map is much better for that than a computer screen (at least for me). I want to play others on Vassal after I finish this scenario. I have a friend in the UK that I'm playing "A Victory Denied" with who also wants this game. We plan to play it. The VASSAL module is very good and streamlines things greatly but there is no substitute for slogging through a game to learn the ins and outs of it.

I'll use my wife's camera for subsequent pics. The Blackberry is not as good for that.

Here are a couple more. Army Group North looks to have a clear path to Leningrad.

But...Lots of Russian reinforcements on the wings waiting to enter.

Looks like your time spare time will be occupied for some time. Looks an awesome game. Are you playing against an opponent of solitaire?

This second pic shows Army Group North storming across the Neman river on its way to Leningrad.

Here are a couple of pics. The first shows my overall setup. The Barbarossa scenario only uses one of the three maps. Three maps come with the game. The Baku map is small (8" x 11"). The Finland map is pretty big.
