I've just bought and played 'Richard the Third' by Columbia Games and not only found it to be one of the best looking games that I've seen, but it also gives a great flavour of the changes of alliegences that occured during the 'Roses' period. Although a block game it is parsecs ahead of the early block games by Columbia, easily on a par with GMT. Definately worth a look. I also have 'Pax Baltica' on the Thirty Years War which has similar mechanics.

I just bought GMT's "Crown of Roses" and am embarking on a big learning curve, I think. However, something tells me it will be worth the time spent - the game looks great and the designer seems to have done their historical research. Once I've played it, I'll try to remember to come back here and tell about the experience.
I'm also interested to find out how Richard III plays if you get the chance to pen a report.
Cheers,
Mike
