Justin got the game wrong. The original is "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego." It keeps me from having to wear those red striped shirts ;-)

It's actually outside the military museum in Athens. I imagine you have the right era.

Hey - it's like a game! "Where's Kaarin?"

... only she doesn't have a 'W' first name for the nice alliteration in the title.

.... and she's not wearing a red-and-white striped shirt

It is Altun Ha in Belize. I am standing with the very creatively named 'Plaza A' behind me.

You may be a nut, but this is not evidence of it :)

Hello Kaarin,

Which ruins are those? I'm trying to figure out if they are ones near Cancun or in Guatemala. They look too short for Guat, but they could be at a wierd angle also.

Of course, knowing my brain you are actually standing in some US city park and I'm a nut :-)

I've played Medieval several times and enjoyed watching the thundering hordes come down upon us. I also remember playing Conquistador several times when Karsten and I first met. I was sorry to miss your demos of the new version at PrezCon and look forward to seeing more of it. Your version of War of the Ring is high on our list. We own War Galley, and I'll be giving it a try. I'm sure Pax Romana will end up on our game table, too. Did you ever end up finding good food at PrezCon?

Kaarin . . .given the games you say are your favorites, I boldly suggest you look into a couple of my games that you might find equally - or more - enjoyable: PAX ROMANA, WAR GALLEY . . . who knows?

Yes, Rise and Fall is us :) The deluxe set of wood game tokens sound very interesting. You'll have to post a photo or e-mail one to me! We're finally working on new designs again.

If you have the vacation time, I think WBC is worth the trip. It's the one convention I do my best to never miss and has been since the first year I attended (1998). Check out the events at www.boardgamers.org to see if we will be playing things you are interested in--though there is also a lot of open gaming. It a great collection of boardgamers--scheduled tournaments that pull in some of the best players from all over (regardless of whether or not you win, it's a wonderful place to learn new strategies and new games). I've met a lot of friends there. It's sorta like this place only face-to-face :)

We'll have full scale event previews posted in the next few month. You can see last year's previews at www.boardgamers.org/yearbkex/ and last year's event reports at www.boardgamers.org/yearbook/.

In any case, I look forward to talking more :)

To answer your questions: No, never been to WBC, it's a bit far (I Live in Montreal, Canada), but I might go next time, is it worth it?

Yes I went to Belize, in the same one-month trip I visited most of Yucatan (all the main Maya sites) and did some great diving; I want to go back! I try to travel as much as I can, and that is not enough. If you liked Belize, Yucatan is nice, Guatemala too. I plan to go to Cuba soon, then France probably. St-Helena's Island (plus South Africa) is on my to-do list, but not before 2009-10... *sigh*

WOW. Just realized that you and your husband designed one of my favorite games: "Rise and Fall"!!! :^)

I bought it in 1992 at a tiny game shop in upstate New York. I made a complete deluxe set of wood game tokens for it, too...

It worked as far as copy and pasting the link. I don't know why it doesn't click through. It must not be set to automatically create links. We should ask John about it.

Alright that didn't work like I hoped .... clearly I need a lesson in link posting.

I'll send you the link in e-mail, too.

Hi Kaarin, it's great to meet another fanatic female wargamer here! I'm beginning to feel less exotic, thank you ;)

I never claimed that I was assured victory--not in this tank of sharks...but it was satisfying to burn your reformer and flip your electorates :)

Yes, I'm at 0 .... but didn't you learn anything from my amazingly stunning last-to-first move at Prezcon?

Unless you're about to win, there's nothing worse than being first in a game of Here I Stand ....
