I like Not War But Murder, it is a very well done game. I'm glad you are looking forward to Washington's War, you can download the playtest kit over on its topic where we have a very active playtest going on.
Yes, I am still contributing to the Dice Tower. As a matter of fact I have a review of Red November by Fantasy Flight on the current episode (#142).
I have been playing a lot of Warhammer 40k 5th edition as of late. My son found my old models in the basement and he is really enjoying it. It is hard to tell your son no I don't play that when he wants to play so bad. My six year old daughter also enjoys playing the game and painting the minis. 40k in 40 minutes rules on Fridays nights for now.
Other than that I have played mostly ASL (as usual) as far as wargames goes. Right now I am looking forward to LnL Noville coming in my mail box soon!
The family is doing wee, and I hope yours is the same.
Nicolas, parfais...
Je suis souvent disponible en PM, 12:00 a 15:30, my time...
Thanks for the comments on 1989 Nic. Since you know the GMT cdgs I would appreciate any helpful ideas you have. Once we have a solid ruleset we can tweak some of the cards and tweak the set up. I have played the game solo a few times and it seems to work pretty well, though I think the support check mechanism might be overpowered?
By the way I have a boy 6 and a girl 1. Tough to get much gaming in when you have so many story books to read, isn't it?
thanks a lot, karen, very king of you
Daughter's adjusting well : she's 5, actually pretty happy, playing the mini-mum very well...
no jealousy at all, for now...because the dad is really careful with her of course...
Perhaps you can bring your little one and wife over for a holiday--Lancaster is a good family location, so they would not have to play boardgames to enjoy themselves. Two of my sisters are coming out with their children--and only the ones who play boardgames will end up pale from lack of sunshine :)
I will ask my friends about the two-player variant. I won the cards when I played at PrezCon, but I haven't tried it yet. The best way to learn, of course, is with other people who already know the rules; however, my husband and I and a friend learned the three-player version without too much pain. I'm learning the rules even better in my current PBEM game. I suspect that you could get involved in a beginner game that way, as well. If you would like to give that a try, I'll ask my friends (designer and playtesters) who run games like that how you can get involved.
Thanks for your nice comment! We allow the French at WBC :) You are definitely invited. If the dollar continues to plummet in value, it may be practically free for you to come over ;-) With international airlines allowed to fly to more cities here soon, perhaps airfare will go down, and just think of all the discounts you could get on products while you are here. A friend of mine from England used to fill an extra suitcase with dental floss, toothpaste, shampoo, etc. that he had purchased at Walmart. He said that even when he declared it all and paid duty it was still less expensive than buying it all at home...plus, he got in a week of boardgaming during his shopping excursion. In any case, good gaming! The next time I come to France, we'll have to get in some gaming time together.
You can create a new image scaled to the size of a card. Then use the dropper to pick a color background of a card you like (like Wilderness War biege), then use fill to fill the frame with that color. You can create another for the "deck strip").
For basic manipulation of the pictures I use Picasa2.
http://picasa.google.com/features/index.html
To design the card layout I use scribus.
http://www.scribus.net/
You can create image frames for the card background, deck strip background and the image for the event. You can create a text frame for the Text of the event, the Ops value and the "EARLY/MIDDLE/LATE YEAR" text. Also you can create any shape for the Ops value background and do a color fill for which side can use the event (or both).
It is pretty easy to do and these are free downloads.
J'adore FAB:The Bulge.
Excellent.
hmm, dont know if I get it right.
you could use a underlay with the marsh and overlays for the rest..
Maybe toy around with using all or some of the checkboxes when creating the overlay.
Or move/bend a level one ground hexside from K32-L31 over ther…
I think so, too, I have the "Handy Rotary", "Power House" and "Balloon Busting" modules. My group once played with 8 players, it was a blast
Is there a VASSAL module for this series of games ?

To do the card backgrounds I use GIMP.
