Profile

Your introduction to consim gaming:
My first contact with this hobby were tactical shooters on consoles because after that I wanted a 'general's view' on historical battles and that quickly led me to board wargames. I favor the tactical level but also enjoy strategical challenges. In the past I was strictly focused on World War II games, but today I enjoy the entire wargaming spectrum, from hypothetical games over Fantasy games, from the Ancients to Vietnam War. Wargaming for me includes games on PC and on consoles, but traditional wargaming has this special feel to it, this kind of 'magic' which is so extremely satisfying and that's so hard to explain to non wargamers. Since me and my better half learned a lot from veteran wargamers all over the world, we wanted to give something back to the community and after we realized that there's almost no information about THE HOBBY available in Germany (there are some websites and clubs, but usually miniatures and/or Napoleonic era, nothing really comprehensive and no stuff to help newbies getting into the hobby) we decided to change this. So now I run the Homefront Wargame Center website with my partner Denny Koch to spread the word in Germany (but you may stop by, since we also have an English Section). Wargaming is much more to me than games on the shelf or even on the table, it's a way of life.

Xbox 360: Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth II

In general, how much time do you spend gaming?

About Me
Well, I'm a Scholar of Religious Studies (M.A.) working in different fields of academic study (mainly occultism, neo-paganism, Shin-Buddhism). Currently I'm doing researches and writing first drafts for my next book which is about Shinran Shonin (the founder of Jodo Shinshu/Shin-Buddhism, the largest Japanese buddhist tradition) and his teachings. The first one dealt with the "infamous" Aleister Crowley and is a monograph on Thelema (the religion he founded) and his 'Magick', a path of self-realization, which he called 'Scientific Illuminism.'
Since it's not that easy to find an employment in Germany in my profession (which would usually mean academic working at research institutes/universities) and because I need enough 'free' time for writing, I'm currently doing freelance work for the oldest German opinion poll institute (Institut für Demoskopie Allensbach / IfD Allensbach).
I myself am a Shin Buddhist for a long time and have found my spiritual home in the Dharma, i.e. Buddhism. If you want to get to know Buddhism I highly recommend the largest anglophone buddhist forum 'E-Sangha' (http://www.e-sangha.com/) where I belong to the moderator staff.
Personal Interests (favorite activities, movies, shows, books, music, etc.)
I do have a large library (1000+ of books actually) about many different topics, e.g. religion, buddhism, philosophy, spiritual teachings, magic, occultism, cults, (military-)history, fantasy, sci-fi, Tolkien, Marvel comics, astronomy, Blues, Harry Potter, Tom Clancy, and lots more. I'm actually a bibliophile and won't ever sell any books I own :-)
One of my recent addictions is the great world created by J.R.R. Tolkien and most books I'm reading at the moment are about 'Middle-Earth'.

Music I like - that's a mix of styles but 80% is BLUES, the rest is stuff like Tom Waits, Motörhead, Ozzy Osbourne, Rammstein etc. and sometimes classical music. Regarding movies, I do like old Hollywood gems with all these great actors like Kirk Douglas, Anthony Quinn, Burt Lancaster, John Wayne, Charlton Heston, Bette Davies etc.., but otherwise I'm open to everything, classic or modern, as long as it's good. Peter Jacksons LOTR trilogy e.g. is a masterpiece imo and one of the best movies I've ever seen.
And I do really love whisk(e)y! I am a former nothing-but-Scotch-Single-Malt-cask-strength-without-water guy, but my partner Denny introduced me to American Whiskey and now I enjoy the best of both worlds, sometimes mixed up with a wee dram of Irish Whisky ;-) Sláinte & Cheers!

Andreas Not real, but it is a real pic of the bar next to the venue that Consimworld Expo is set. I thought some of the regulars would get a kick out of it.

Criminal. No mixing Laphroig with anything but a spot of spring water...and I'd counsel against it. Even with the 10 year. Certainly not with anything else!

well....i'd be all for it, but mixing Laphriog and Percocet would be an insult to the single malt

Nah, not shy - I just don't have a picture of just myself! I'm the one behind the camera most of the time. Besides, this is my universal avatar. Maybe I'll have Liz take a snap tonight for this site.
