Profile

Your introduction to consim gaming:
Purchased a used Panzerblitz game at a yard sale when I was 12 for buck. Liked the cover. Took me a year to figure out how to play the game. By then it was too late I had discovered AH, Squad Leader soon followed and then Cross of Iron, but when Up Front was realeased I was hooked for life.
Your favorite game(s):
AH: Republic of Rome, Dune, Squad Leader, Up Front, Stonewall Jackson's Way
The Gamers: Afrika II, Stalingrad Pocket II,
GMT: TNW, HIS, Combat Commander, Wilderness War
Others: WIFFE, TSS

Weekend that was.

Got to play a CC game, which I lost due to poor dice rolls. I can't even roll dice on cards. What am I to do. Also got to play my first full game of Manouever. Really like that. Can't wait to play more.

Okay, we pushed through two TDC scenarios today. Had a blast and gave Chad a good run for his money both times! I'm really looking forward to playing this in Tempe in a few weeks.

How is your FAB game going?

We are both alive and well and BUSY for the next few weeks. Just got back from GMT West Weekend, two weeks from now we take a trip to celebrate our anniversary and then two weeks after that we are driving to Tempe, AZ for MonsterCon/ConsimWorld Expo. After that, the folks at my office are gonna kill me for being gone so much. :(

I got an email from Miguel that he needs you and I to step in on the CC forum as he is going to busy in his personal life for a while. Any ideas on that front? (I just saw the email, so I haven't had time to come up with anything clever yet.)

I prefer FAB: Bulge over Shifting Sands as I feel I have better control over what I can do. SS cards apparently don't like me,either, and come up in an order that usually does me no good. And the card I am looking for is usually at the bottom of the deck with the card that precedes it being a card I draw waaaaaaayyy before I need it. It played out a little too scripted for my taste.

Don Greenwood..... if I had a face to go with the name, I could tell you for sure. I am perfectly lousy at remembering names, but I does sound familiar.

I think your contributions to BP#2 are outstanding and we are glad to have them. If there were more scenarios designed/submitted, we would actually have to pick and choose, which I think would be a good thing. So keep 'em coming!

And the M. Falcon was a blast to build. We just finished her last night. I have more pic, but I haven't posted them. Partly due to time, and partly because I was thinking no one would be interested in them but me. I just put them in so that I could get them into my photo album to make them show up on my page. We don't glue the parts, but these huge kits are very well designed and hold up well over time. I have a Star Destroyer on the counter between the kitchen and the dining room game table that we built several years ago and (other than dust) looks brand new.

Hey, Bryan, what are you working on these days (game-wise)? I'm just being nosy/curious...

Bryan, a little addon to the "Köhler" discussion:

The name "Köhler" is the name of an (in Germany) extinct occupation. After a bit of googling I found out that the English equivalent is "charcoal burner" i.e. someone producing charcoal by burning wood.

Bryan, thanks for asking. The con was good, just NOT what I was expecting this year. Played some good games, spent time with friends, made money at the flea market and then spent money at the flea market. Overall, a good day.

I enjoy Manoeuvre. It is simple in terms of mechanics, not much to learn or remember, so it is easy to get into. But once I started playing, I was impressed with the depth of decisions to be made. And with the multiple nationalities, each with its own playstyle, I foresee a LOT of playtime before this game even begins to feel old.

I think is a great intro game for younger players. And with all the various leaders, I have already been tempted to read up on some of the names that I am not familiar with. And then, whoops, I've gone and learned something. ;0)

Bryan, I can empathize with you regarding that Panzerblitz purchase. Back in the day, the complexity of that game was somewhat overwhelming; not to mention Third Reich. Of course, these games today look like child's play to us now...but I haven't forgotten what it felt like back then.
