as Denny said, Trier and the Roman festival is worth a visit. Many of the reenactors know a lot about their favored time and most of them actually do their own stuff, i.e. they make everything with their own hands. You can have very interesting conversations with these folks. Years ago Denny and I attended often at these festivals, mostly at events that were based on Viking/Celtic culture but if you are actually taking part, being able to use these events as 'time-machines', i.e. to completely immerse yourself in the culture and environment then this can be a very satisfying hobby. We were just visitors, but I knew a guy who was really into that hobby. He used to have a small pushcart with all the stuff he needed and when an event was close (usually at weekends), he took a holiday, put on his 'Gewandung' (that's what they call their time-specific clothes) and started a journey afoot some days before the event, going all the way alone, with his pushcart, sleeping and cooking in the woods, and all this in his historic outfit. When he reached the event location he was already entirely immersed in the 'other world'. After the event, he would go back all the way on foot with his little pushcart...Well, that's dedication to the hobby, isn't it?
But this hobbyhorse needs a lot of time, usually craftmanship and often also a lot of money, so we decided that we couldn't have two time consuming hobbies. We therefore stuck to wargaming instead :-)
Got that photo you requested.

I should be at WBC at least for the weekend. I don't have the time off to spend anything more than that. Did I see right that you're in Newington?
