Profile

Your introduction to consim gaming:
I was introduced to wargaming by my older brother, when I was in junior high school. While we didn't play many games with each other at the time, I was able to build a small network of gaming buddies during high school. I got "re-introduced" to the hobby after a college hiatus when visiting a hobby store during a business trip in the '90s.
Your favorite game(s):
I'm a traditional hex-based type of gamer; Grognard is what you would refer to me as. My favorite wargame is SPI's Operation Typhoon. The reason this is my favorite game is because it is a "friendly" monster game, large and sexy, in being easy to play over a long weekend.
What game(s) are you currently playing (solitaire, FTF, PBEM, etc.) or wish to play next?
Currently playing GDW's Series 120 game, The Battle of the Alma
What game(s) have you played recently?
Played Leaping Lemmings which is currently on the GMT P500 program. Design by Rick Young, the game is sure to be a hit. Played this game with my two daughters at CSW Expo 2008. Also got in a few turns of Age of Bismarck playtest, a game that ConsimPress will be publishing.
In general, how much time do you spend gaming?
Very little, but ask me again once I'm retired....
How big is your game collection?
1,000+ games but most are in storage until I get a bigger place.
Your local game club(s) and/or where you reside (let's network!)
Hope to join a club soon...I reside in Garland, TX which is a suburb of Dallas
About Me
I was born and raised in Ventura, CA. I have two daughters from a previous marriage and now reside in Garland, TX with my wife and 1 yr. old son (and heir to my game collection), Cooper. Attended college at University of Redlands, CA and graduate school at Thunderbird, American Graduate School of Int'l Management, Glendale, AZ. My professional background is largely software product management. My current gig (which I really enjoy) is with Aquire. If you are involved with a company in possible need of enterprise org charting/reporting and related solutions, please let me know!
Personal Interests (favorite activities, movies, shows, books, music, etc.)
Favorite Activiites: tennis, military history, wargames, ice hockey, football, eating sushi.
Favorite Movies: Gettysburg, Pride and Prejudice, Notting Hill, Groundhog Day, Lost in Translation, Rear Window, The Man Who Knew Too Much, Vertigo, North by Northwest, It's a Wonderful Life

John, I just realised that I sent this message to "do-not-reply" about a month ago... doh:

"Thanks for taking the time to reply John, much appreciated. (regarding SPI Revival ezine 2)

I'm due to play Winter War with a friend that has read widely about the campaign. If you think it might be worthwhile I'll happily write an extended AAR of our encounter.

Additionally, there's a cool looking unofficial Continuation War variant that I've acquired, amongst some other variants, that could also form part of a (very) belated issue 2?

Regards

Don "

We should get together! One easy way would be for you to just head down to Arlington after work on a Thursday. Then you can meet everyone in the South Arlington Wargamers at the same time.

E-mail me when you get ready to do that and I'll get you directions and confirm that I'll be there. My schedule for the next couple of weeks is kind of cramped.

Will you be able to go to WBC or did you use up all your resources putting on Expo 2008? By all accounts, that came off great!

John, if you're still in the area some of the North Texas Wargamers will be gaming at Heroplex in Watauga Sunday 6/15 at 2 pm. It would be great to see you there.

hehe..thanks. She is really a good sport about it. I'm very lucky. But I never let the truth get in the way of a good sarcastic comment or two.

I'm looking forward to seeing you again this May. Last year was my first Expo and I really enjoyed it. Thanks for all your hard work. And Brian and his wife, also.

Regards,

Gerry
