I was recently watching and discussing with Ambush Alley players the relative merits of the game over squad level action in board games.

I must admit they really got me thinking.

In the modern era there are few if any board games for tactical:

Boots on the Ground (a diamond in the rough, but it needs work)

LNL - Heroes of the Gap (I really like this system, and it is very popular) as well as Vietnam - Forgotten Heroes.

I must say their games looked good, but lacked vehicles. The size also seemed to smaller - more fireteam orientated versus squad level.

what else is out there for this era, and scale?

Fields of Fire (the first game has Vietnam, the next game will include some more modern campaign (Iraq iirc?)).

Many more if you would also consider out of print games and accept 80's WW3 as "modern".
