For instance, Fire in the Lake, Churchill, Triumph and Tragedy, Liberty or Death...???...none of which I managed to snag before they went out of print.  (Used to was we could let the actual/real grognards work out bugs on ConSimWorld and then buy stuff...I say a firing squad for the blackguard who invented 'just-in-time inventory')!!

Chris,

Congrats on the job offer!  Best of luck.

But before you go...  If you have a title in which you take particular interest, we could adjust the club sked around your plans, marking a special-event day when you join us, or, perhaps sked an event between now at the club's next date (the 27th).

Btw, there were a couple of typos in my earlier long note.

(P.s., I myself grew up in Catonsville.  311 Wessling Circle.  Ah yes, my Dogfight-and-Stratego years!)

     Anyway,

I should have added that Ty Bomba, Rick Sinnreich and Peter Pellegrino all lodged comments as well.  Talk about attracting grognards!

Tim—It sounds like you have a good thing going down there in AA county. I wish I had gone to high school around here! I'll be in touch regarding future meetings. I'm not entirely sure of my schedule for the rest of the month, I just got a surprise job offer in Connecticut so, I have no idea what's going to happen a month from now.

I don't have a lot of history in wargaming—definitely not an old grognard. I got back into gaming last summer and sort of stumbled on some of GMT's newer CDG's. I've been getting into COIN and more hex and counter stuff since then, but I am definitely still a neophyte, albeit an enthusiastic one.

Gerald—I guess I live in the Yale Heights neighborhood? I'm just a couple hundred feet from living in Arbutus instead of the city. I actually do all my grocery shopping in Arbutus or Catonsville, I'm conveniently located just off of 695, near the Wilkens Ave exit.

JMGray—that sounds great! Do you have a place to play? I only ask because my place is tiny, un-air conditioned, and my wife would not tolerate our kitchen table getting filled up for too long.

Jim,

I read it several weeks ago.  Commented, in fact.  Brilliant work!  I'm grateful that MarCorU leadership has the wisdom to support your initiative.  I'd recommend that everyone on this distro read your WotR article.

To Tim Smith - I am very interested in your ONI gaming --- I am doing much the same thing in military education, see: http://warontherocks.com/2016/04/wargaming-in-the-classroom-an-odys...

Please drop me a note at jimlacey1@msn.com

Chris, I would be glad to try Empire of the Sun with you sometime.  I live in the Owings Mills/Reisterstown area.

Gerry, we seem to be have many old AH games in common.  I would love to try 1776 ftf sometime, among others.  I also have an interest in Civil War games.

So Chris, what bit of SW Baltimore, Arbutus, Pigtown?

Chris,

We met next in the Edgewater library (27 Aug, 10:30-4:45, not the 20th, btw -- sometimes we have to flex the sked; there's competition for free access to public space).

We have Axis & Allies Pacific sked for that day.  I've got a huge map and lots of extra pieces.  We'll use hidden movement, planned recon, and other mods.  Might use two maps and have the gamemasters adjudicate recon results between the teams.  The teams will function as command staffs, with fleet and task force commanders.  Here's an article that describes how I've used this for analyst training in a Navy command: SimBAT%2C%20Nov%2009%20Intelligencer.pdf (Jerry, you might find this interesting, too).

I have yet to lay out the schedule for academic year 16-17 (guess I'd better hop to it!).  Here's our sked for Fall 2015: Strategy%20Gaming%20Schedule%2C%20Fall2015.pdf (4.6 MB; let's see if it goes).  However, this year I'm going to ratchet the gaming up to historically-accurate consims, both CDG/PtP (GMT-style) and hex-&-counter ('H&C', shall I call it?).  Jerry Todd is an H&C grognard and my other compatriot, John Edwards, covers the gamut, with a strong suit in Euros (a vital part of our repertoire, especially for younger lads and girls, when we can get them).

I usually kick off the semester with some fun games (e.g., Eagles Games' Age of Mythology and Civilization) that my son can run.  Perhaps you could join Jerry and John and me for a four-part adult game on one of those days (LeipzigPaths of Glory? -- what would you suggest?) while we let the lads lead themselves.

I'm eager to bring fellow grognards in.  The lads are in a learning curve, but some of them are pretty advanced (they're all in high school new).  Most of them have been with us for several years, and we meet about 26 times a year.  Jerry and I ran Ligny and Quatre Bras from DG's Nap's Last Battles a couple of weeks ago.  My son served well as Bluecher.  We have Jena! planned for the fall semester (sweet!! -- thanks, Jerry!).

If you have games you especially enjoy and think cover important historical topics (as most consims do), we'd be thrilled to have you join us.  I'll study the rules first, of course, and help MC any event you'd like us to run.

Hope to meet you soon in person, Tim

Hey Tim,

Thanks! That's great. Davidsonville is a little bit of a drive for me, but not too big of a price to pay for an enthusiastic group of gamers. I can't make it today because of previous obligations, but maybe I can swing by in two weeks and catch you then? Do attendees bring games or is it more structured?
