Our first War Game tournament begins Friday at noon with the new Julius Caesar.   We also have events in th efollowing War Games: C&C: Ancients, C&C: Napoleonics, Hammer of the Scots, Liberty, War of 1812 and Richard III.

I hope this post finds you well. We are getting ready for the 2011 Block Party. We have a free game for paid attendees again this year. We have the Plaques & T-shirts ordered. We have a limited amount of Columbia Games on site for sale. We have new events with the Strategy Gamers sponsoring three events. Casey Jones is a rail themed event on Friday evening. The Euro Iron Man is back on Saturday featuring Settlers, Power Grid & Puerto Rico. The Louisville Grand Prix is Sunday using Speed Circuit & Formula De. 1960: The Making of the President is back as an event again this year.

War Games have new events as well. Commands & Colors: Napoleonics is on for Friday evening with a round robin play. Julius Caesar is Columbia's new title and it will kick off the con Friday afternoon. There are many of the old events back again this year featuring Hammer of the Scots, Liberty, Richard III, War of 1812 and Commands & Colors: Ancients. We hope to have a local Game Shop be a vendor at least one day of the con.

We hope to see you March 25-27th at the Block Party!

Keep Gaming, Ric

2010 games that I have and have played a little - Julius Caesar and Shiloh from Columbia.  I am not sure what other block games that have come out.  I like Julius Caesar - even more than Richard III.  I think it is because many of my opponents that play Lancaster in Richard III hae a hard time with the learning curve of that side.  Caesar does not have that steep learning curve that we see in RIII.  The games that I have played have all been very close and competitive.

I have not played Shiloh.....what is the opinion out there on this one?

Breaker M, Sorry I just saw your post from Nov 7.  Somehow I missed it.  Thanks for the compliments.  Release date is Summer 11.  It's been in limbo for a while but is now officially on Academy's production track.

Re your post of Aug 20 Michael, I noticed your Sturm Europa game has hit the boards over at Academy Games -

The maps, artwork and components look superb. I see it's still in development. Do you have a release date?

Ric - we are thinking of doing an Medieval Iron Man tournament at Williamsburg Muster using Hammer of the Scots, Crusader Rex, and Richard III. Here is our structure -

You can play each game a maximum of two times (but you have to play different sides each time). For each game you score 2 points for a win, and 1 point for a loss. This allows players to play during the day and evening all Friday and Saturday, and sometime Saturday Evening we will call a limit and count victory points.

The point of this tournament, of course, is to encourage a lot of play. With six games (the maximum allowed) a player will capture somewhere between 6 and 12 points. We will recognize two types of winners of the tournament - first will be most overall points, and the second will be best win/loss ratio (only for players who play more than 1 game). We have used this structure before at gamedays and it was pretty successful in generating a lot of gameplay.

I would love to try Julius Ceasar, I just don't know anyone. I will have to consider getting the game myself.

By the way is it 6 sided dice or 10 sided?
