I would have a hard time just starting with this game. I am new to wargaming and I remember starting with memoir 44 and feeling a little intimidated. Theres just way to much action and troop movement in this one. If I were to start a beginner, I would try
Battleline- by GMT- If you can play poker you can play this, and it has a historical theme to line battles
Wings of War- Easy as pie, pick 3 cards and move and shoot
Memoir 44- Only 3 types of units primarily, the terrain can be a bit tricky but you can take that away if you want.
I really like CCA but I think that battlecry or memoir is a good 1st step to this game personally. Another game I am playing that is fun for beginners is up front, but its very expensive. I think Tide of Iron or Conflict of heroes wouldnt be bad either
I like to use Battle Cry. The figures with the flags look appealing, especially for younger gamers. After the mechanics of BC are absorbed, I might try Ancients or Memoir. I also like Wings of War as an introductory game with the minis. I also think that Hold The Line or Clash For A Continent might be good IG's, particularly if you can use miniatures. I have a set of miniatures from Eagle Games' Napoleon In Europe that work great.
