Not much action here. If nothing else we should change the name and add LoB. those rules are alive, there will be more games and the old RSS games work with the new rules.
SDI Guns of Cedar Creek, Dead of Winter, First/Second Manassas yes I agree.
I like thier idea but they went way off with the system.
If GMT took the extras that SDI had with thier Manassas game, adding the 2 maps and counters. RBoC would have been a monster.
The Extras is part of the reason why I'm enjoying the RSS/LoB games.
That would have been the first - cut out the counters and glue them to card stock. A long hiatus followed in the system during which I discovered CWB and then the RSS/CWR and finally LoB.
In the day I was all over GBACW
I don't Know about that, GMT has done some really nice things with the games,
Maps, counters, playability
But tks for yr input
First or Second DoW?
Welcome back Dave. If you like how sausage is made download the v2.0 beta stuff form the forum. Dean's been fiddlin'with stuff faster than I can test it. Fortunately he's got a lot of testers.
Some of the 2.0 stuff is an improvement, some IMO not so much. Of course a lot of stuff has been run and then dumped.
IMNSHO, GBACW lost the race with CWB/RSS decades ago, in fact when Dead of Winter was published.
My thoughts are a little more difficult. I'm a GBACW nut, Its the only games I play. That being said, over the years I took notice of this series and collected all of the RSS including watching out for variant/optional counters to keep my games current. I did this because I enjoy a good regimental scale game. some of the other reasons are,
Game scale, love a good size monster game.
The what ifs, units that were in the area but did not join in the fight.
I than hook up with a fella where I live who was big in the series and he began teaching me the series through the LoB rules of NbH, so I never learned the RSS rules. I must say I really enjoyed Playing the games I had for so long and admired from a distants. I would like to get one the monster games on one of my tables, maybe next summer.
We've played to date since Feb. 2012
NbH Corn Field 2
South Mountain 1
THG Barlows(blockers) Knoll 1
One mans opinion, GBACW has competition,
At first I thought of the map as being cluttered and difficult to look at. LOS did not seem correct either. After reading through the rules 3 or 4 times in a week and restarting NBH 2 or 3 times I find I like the flow of the game. I think the revisions are more likely to capture historical pacing and casualty rates.
I have been away from this series for about 7 or 8 years and like the new rules. However, I have to admit that after the first reading I wanted to go back to the RSS original rules. Glad I stayed with LOB, even though some of the interesting "dirt" from the old system is missing.
And what is your thoughts?
Revisiting the series with None But Heroes.
