Drat... I found out I'm going to be supporting a "real" wargame event for work, and March Madness happens to fall right in the middle of the event.  (And given the mildness of the winter here in KC so far I'd much rather stay here than go where I'm headed.)

Cool! I'm a virtually complete ASL newbie despite collecting it for years, but I can't pass it up this time around being so handy to get to.

I went to one Spring event in Lawrence but its been several years ago now, and I've lost track of it since then (it seems I discover most KC area events just after they've happened...).

March Madness:  Just met with the hotel this week, and look likes 16-18 March at the newly privatized hotel on Fort Leavenworth.  Great room rate (suites) and a huge gaming space.  Just confirming details this week.

Spring Maneuvers is no more, the organization that ran it folded, and Steve Allie left the museum.  They combined it with a convention in Lawrence - I don't know much more than that.

What's up for Spring Maneuvers or the ASL March Madness events in 2012?

I played Viking Fury this weekend with some old battle buddies out in DC. This is a good multi-player game. Not too complicated, kind of neat components with a cloth map, and lots of variables for points, so you don't really know who won until you add up all the points in the end. Took five of us about 2-3 hours to play, and that was learning for one and lots of chit chat.

Yea, with those Americans like to snuggle up to their opponents.
Twilight struggle is a tension filled game although most times it is over rather quickly.

Combat Commander has the ability to cause outrageous mood swings!

Well over 100 people attended the two day event. Not much boardgaming, though I am not opposed to increasing that coverage. AP decided not to attend this year for various reasons. The 2010 convention is yet to be determined, though a decision will probably be made very soon.

I've decided I don't like any scenario where the Americans can get close and personal so easily... :-)

The only two boardgames that currently challenge my cool are Combat Commander and Twilight Struggle. So it be.

It was a walk up the hill for the Americans

Yup, I knew it had been on post--I went a couple of times in '00-'02. I knew about the move to Lawrence but not to OP, or that a new group had taken up the mantle. I just need to be more diligent in checking the local gaming schedules.
