Randy an I are going to play a campaign around mid July. Using My 6 Page Napoleonics, left side of page bellow.

Wargames Medford Oregon

Here are the main problems i have encountered with campaigns

if supply rules are used the Campaign is usually decided at the map level and no battles are fought.

If fortification rules are used the campaign winds up being sieges

If there is not a minimum size for armies there are lots of stupid battles where an infantry battalion marches on and a cavalry squadron rides around it the whole game.

Attachment is my incomplete preliminary draft of the Map segment of the campaign. If any one wants to check for game breaking mechanisms your feed back is appreciated. I'll be working on this off on on between now and T time.

Lance,

I'm not interested in Napoleonics but what I've found with most campaigns over the years is that they attempt to be too "big" . . . that is to say that they try to accomplish too much.

You mention "supply" . . . while this is really a significant factor in "the operational art", it can easily become both a bookkeeping nightmare and a deterent to physical encounters on the table top.

I suggest that you consider limiting the scope of your campaign. Charles S. Grant has a lovely short campaign in the first of his "Scenario" books that I like . . . but even better is his new "Raid on St. Michel". It is a series of battles that would make an excellent small campaign. I need to get some more troops painted in order to run it, but it looks like a LOT of fun.
