Welcome David. Is Ed Mohrmann(sp?) still around?
I've been play testing the GTS system's "The Greatest Day" on Vassal. I was "meeting" every Tuesday and Saturday with Matt Purvis who moved to NM about 9 months ago. He had to drop Saturday nights, so if anyone is interested in virtual play, let me know. Tom Holliday is the scenario designer on the Utah Beach scenarios. Lots of airborne drops. It's a fast paced system, above average complexity, but much less than La Bataille.
Happy to join you all to represent the miniatures side of the hobby...I am a member of the Triangle Simulation Society which has sponsored the Southern Front convention every fall...it tend to be focused on miniatures gaming in a wide range of periods and scales but we would be interested in expanding to accommodate a more active boardgaming community. Our members are mainly scattered throughout the Triangle but we have active members in the Triad and Charlotte.
We have been trying to maintain some sort of normalcy over the last several month and have scheduled several miniature games at Hanger 18 in Cary. We've recently found a venue that may better meet our space needs and we may try to schedule a mini convention in late April or early May. I will post all our upcoming events on this site so those inclined can stop by.
I am also playing mostly solo at the moment due to Covid. I very much enjoy Red Storm and Skies above the Reich.
I am currently waiting on an order of Bitter Woods by Compass games as well.
However, I also have been playing a whole lot of High Frontier by Phil Eklund. It's not a war game, but it works great solo as well.
Glad to hear you two are interested in doing some wargaming! We will need to wait until the vaccines roll out and some restrictions are lifted, but I would be up for getting together and doing som ftf gaming. The Gamer's Armory is a great place. The owner, Scott Blanton, is a long-time wargamer and just a great guy.
Shawn, EA: Ardennes is one of my favorite games. Very innovative system.
My Monday night group has played everything from Old School Tactical to Great Battles of the American Civil War. Another local buddy and I are playing Combat Commander on Thursday nights over Vassal.
David and Shawn, let's keep in touch on this board and when it gets safe to get together, we can schedule a day for it. Looking forward to it!
I've been playing a bunch of the solo games I have, like Ardennes, Conflict of Heroes, and Enemy Coast Ahead.
The group has not been very active. Its difficult to find wargamers. Strategy board games are popular but wargaming remains a less popular subset of strategy games. I would be interested in playing some games but the pandemic has made it difficult. What games are you all currently playing?
David
Hey Jamie,
Yes! I was looking for some gamers in the Raleigh area. I am somewhat newish to wargaming, but was hoping to get some FTF games in at some point.
I just went to check out the Gamers Armory this weekend and was impressed!
I don't think so. Are you looking for wargamers in the Raleigh area? We have several that I know of, but not any "official" groups. I'm currently part of a group of 4 that play every Monday night and we have other groups that get together, as well as individual people who play or meet up at The Gamer's Armory frequently, well at least before Covid. :)
