I'd also just mention Mr Lincoln's War...Mark McLaughlin's port of the W&P system to the ACW. Maybe some of the developed concepts (morale levels for example) could be back ported to W&P 1st edn.
Hmm...I'd be up for a Vassal play of one of the scenarios to help build my Vassall knowledge and after decades of soloing to play w/an opponent. Am based in the UK so may need to be disjoint turns due to timezones.
Anyway msg me if that may be of interest
I never had the AH version of the game. I purchased it via KickStarter and so far played the first scenario twice the basic and had fun playing it. I also setup the advance scenario one, but got hectic here so have not played it. I think I have a grasp of the basic rules. If you ever want and have time Eric Walters I would like to play a scenario.

Such an improvement over the old Avalon Hill original, which was loved for its operational-level scenarios and hated for the botched campaign game covering the strategic prosecution of all the Napoleonic Wars for Empire (1805-1815).
The new version is a much more gorgeous (and expensive) physical production that includes three pre-Empire scenarios (Nappy in the Po River Valley, 1796), Nappy in Egypt, and the Marengo campaign in 1800). But the strategic game is billed as a completely redesigned product that is worthy of play.
