Interesting idea. I've always thought that opportunity fire would make an email game of PG difficult but I'll be curious to hear how it works out using a GM.

Comrades, I have a proposal, lets try playing PG by Email.

Each game will require 3 people, one of which will be the Game Master (GM), who will communicate with the players. The players do not have direct communication with each other as far as the GM is concerned.

Player1 <---> GameMaster <---> Player 2

We'll try to do one turn every 24-48 hours. The GM will take care of the micromanagement of units during action segments and the game mechanics with respect to die rolls and combat results. The players will make decisions and give orders to units and possibly entire unit hierarchies by submitting orders every 24 hours to the GM's email address. The GM will of course send out reports that reflect the changing nature of the battlefield also about every 24-48 hours.

I'd like to do a test of this concept and need two dedicated players to be the commanders of the opposing forces. As the GM I'll provide the map as a JPEG file and will be responsible for the progression of the game and some unit micromanagement.

The opposing players will be subjected to Fog of War, they will not see hidden enemy units that are out of direct line of sight.

So send me an email at alex.dolgorukov@gmail.com and we'll get started. Once we finish off with the scenario, we'll compile the results of the game for other members of the community and share our experiences. Hopefully it will turn out to be a fun and a practical form of entertainment

I hear you. That is what draws me to the system. It is simple yet accurate withits portrayals of the importance of leaders, difficulty destroying units, without the tedium that I fondly remember in SL/ASL. Wonderful system. I wish the maps were a bit better in their art, but they suffice. I hear the Cassino maps look great. Ihave yet to see them.

I played my first PG game a few months ago (from the Normandy module)... with fond memories of SL from years ago, I found the PG system fairly simple to learn and had a lot of fun with it... looking forward to dabbling with it in the future.

CASSINO IS HERE! Just got mine in the mail. Best maps of the PanzerGrenadier series yet. Four of them. Covers Cassino town, the Monastery, SnakeHead Ridge, and the Liri Valley. Tons of scenarios and a two campaign games. This may get the PG series some serious attention. Counters include the Germans, the Americans, The New Zealanders, the Maoris, the Gurkhas, the Rajputani/Indians, etc. Wow. Thing begs to be played.

Ok, so alot of the other systems out there allow Vassal or Gameboxes, but Avalanche Press does not. I'm fine with that, but I'm curious.....How do all of you play if you don't have FtF. I'm in Anchorage and I haven't found any PG opponents. I haven't even started learning the system because I'm still learning a couple other systems, but it does intrigue me. I just don't want to put in the effort to learn a system if I can't find any opponents. That's the beauty of the Vassal system, you can ALWAYS find an opponent, either live play or PBEM.

Well, we're now seeing the only possible rival to the PANZERGRENADIER system emerge as MMP's released the long-awaited PANZERBLITZ: HILL OF DEATH. For those with the PANZERGRENADIER game BEYOND NORMANDY, you'll have fun comparing the two. Despite the same unit and roughly similar ground scales, the two systems are quite different. PANZERGRENADIER is a bit richer (as one would expect given it's history and intent) and the new PANZERBLITZ system tries to remain true to its earlier roots while incorporating some novel twists. That said, PANZERBLITZ appears to appeal more to the tournament crowd and we'll see how balanced the scenarios are as a group. In the meantime, the legions of PANZERGRENADIER players will probably keep soldiering on with this system, but it's worth looking this new title/system over.

I'm expecting my copy of Cassino tomorrow and am excited based on the CSW buzz. I've spent a chunk of the holiday making my own counters, which is an adventure in and off itself!

I just received Kokoda Trail and Campaigns and Commanders - eastern Front. The quality of AP/PG products continues to improve. Not only do they continue with informative historical information, but now both of these books tie the tactical battles into larger campaign games settings.
I am still reading Kokoda trail, but the 5 month conflict for New Guiniea is reported extremely well and focuses on a gruelling conflict overlooked in the gameing community. I am reminded only of Port Moresby and Bloody Buna as games that tried to cover this horric saga that is a much lesser known theater (three words - Japanese POW canabalism).
I look forward to using some of the leader character rules. I used to use the Squad Leader campaign game rules to track individual leader exploits. It was a fun addition to the game that gave you a more personal feel and attachment to the counters; and made you both reckless for glory, and then more cognizant of your tactical decisions. I found myself much less likely to close assault and AFV after losing too many young leaders and found solace in getting points for staying alive and rallying broken units for points. Those guys made rank.
