- About Me
- Transitioning from somewhat heavy boardgames (Twilight Imperium) and tabletop Mini wargames such as Age of Sigmar and Warlords of Erehwon. Also been heavily into historical computer games but those have gotten worse since the 1990s.
Drawn in by my love of history. My profession is teaching history as well, I find that understanding conflict for teaching is made more alive by playing games in the setting. There is a modern temptation in teaching to almost completely ignore war. This helps me not make that mistake.
Currently I teach Asian history, and so that is where I am starting with my games. Tonkin and Dien Bien Phu. Then probably into WW2 games. From there, anywhere is great. I'd like to get into a wider set of games over time like Napoleonics, WW1, and modern war.

I teach joint operations to U.S. Army majors but our military history professor and I also teach an elective that blends military history and wargaming together and the students seem to love it. Since you teach Asian history, you might also be interested in GMT's SEKIGAHARA, which is a lot of fun to play and captures the spirit of warfare in that period relatively well. I used to be more into Japanese than I am now, but enjoyed Japanese fiction years ago and still love Kurosawa movies!
