Rulebook - all the muses about it

I was talking about rulebook on BGG the other day. Constructing a rulebook by the game designer is not easy and it might often be more of a work by the developer. The rules should be carefully constructed and shouldn't expect the players to find them out by implications. One of the joy in wargaming is reading rulebook and finding every questions have been answered by the rulebook itself and need no further clarifications from the game designer.

What was your last rulebook reading that…

Wargaming Scene in Eugene, other spots in Oregon

As my wife and I discuss retirement, we have considered returning to her roots in Oregon.

How much gaming activity is there in Eugene? Salem?

Thanks,

Dave

Making a Magnetic Game Board

The Magnetic Game Board Conundrum….

If you’re like me, you’ve looked longingly at Marco’s magnetic game boards and wished you could somehow create one of your own. I’ve a busy work schedule and often don’t get much more time in than a few minutes here and there. A magnetic board would be ideal to keep the counters in position and store it away when the space was required for work.Unfortunately, those  lovely “counter Clips” now run  $129 for 50 half-inch…

Learning of my Grandfathers through Wargaming

Hey all. Just heard of you all, and appreciative of the add.

I'm not a huge wargamer, though I used to play hex-based wargames my dad had back when I was in my teens (though I couldn't name one).

I'm a video game and board game kind of guy, though miniature fleet battles and the like interest me and I used to love Battletech and Shadowrun with miniatures.

What's drawing me to war games at the moment is an effort to get to know my grandfathers through exploring the…

Die Rollers

Hello,

I wonder if some folks could suggest die rollers... Vassal die roller seems suspect?

I would like one that is real time if possible.

Games bought at WBC

I brought back the following:

Battle Above the Clouds - MMP - GCACW for Chickamauga/Chattanooga.  I've started playing Stonewall Jackson's Way II recently which is my introduction to the system and I'm impressed.

Korea II - MMP - Second edition of the OCS game on Korea, a reprint with some minor cleanup applied. Has always been one my favorite OCS games.

Special Ops #7 - MMP - Contains Autumn for…

Line of Depature Issue 80 in Production

The eightieth issue of Line of Departure is being printed right now.  The lead review is of Javier Romero's Islamic State: Libya War, and he contributes a preview of his upcoming Islamic State:Syria too.

Next, there's an article that I wanted to write for a long time.  It is an analysis of Freedom in the Galaxy as a game of insurgency and counterinsurgency, a model of revolution as understood in the real world but placed in a science fiction milieu.  Another article covers strategy…

CSW Forum is Down

[update-1] We have been working all day with the software vendor and our hosting provider on the major outage we experienced overnight (four separate individuals have been on our case). Unfortunately, what we have encountered is still undergoing investigation. While the good news is that all data is safe and backed up, we are still not sure if it's a hardware issue or if it is code-related/possible corruption issue.

Testing continues as we work to diagnose the issue. I am committed in…
