MMP announce release of OCS: Small World in August, 2012.

MMP announce release of OCS: Small World in August, 2012.

Multi-Man Publishing (MMP) is pleased to announce the August, 2012 release of the thirteenth game in the Operational Combat Series (OCS) - OCS: Small World.

The thirteenth game in the series departs from the established norms by focusing on a fantasy realm: ‘the small world’ - a world that is too small to accommodate everyone.

Series designer, Dean Essig, commented that, ‘The scope of…

'Gaming/simulating' the Kokoda Track campaign

'Gaming/simulating' the Kokoda Track campaign

I've just returned from a two week research trip in Canberra where I explored aspects of the Kokoda Track campaign (primarily 1942). It was a shocking, brutal campaign fought in what many soldiers have described as the worst environment on the world to fight a war in (these include veterans of trench warfare from…

War of 1812 Conference Paper

As I posted about three months ago, I attended a conference held by the New York Military Affairs Symposium, commemorating the bicentennial of the War of 1812.  There, I presented a paper on British Strategy toward the northeast of the United States, also putting it into the context of the larger war against Napoleon.

Since then, there has been a fair amount of interest among history people to see it published on the web.  Today,…

OCS Operation Mars brief AAR

So I feel compelled to say a little something about the weekend of playing OCS we went through recently (6/22-23/12).

First I think this was the sixth or seventh annual June weekend I've done this and, as ever, it was very fun to get several guys together and play multiple days and hours of OCS. It seems like each year has almost had a theme to it too.

One year it was look at the terrain and guard your supply lines as we had a key bridge taken, putting about half our army out…

Red Storm Over The Reich 2+ turns completed (pic and waffle heavy)

Had a solo play through of Red Storm Over The Reich today (see earlier entry re Set-up with Pics and Video). First turn inevitably slow as I referred to rules. Not a complex game by any means in terms of systems used and the…

Some soloist thoughts

I suspect most folk here have it all down pretty good,

but someone asked a few questions, and I thought I'd express them:

A couple of hints though (especially if your memory is good).

Take lots of breaks - you can't play interactive games as

quickly as I-go-you-go ones, or you'll remember too much.

Get hooked on the story. For me, even when I'm not taking a

break, I spend some time…

New Tactics and a New Direction

I have now successfully sold off about 50% of my board wargames and wargame magazines, with the other half due to be sold off in the coming weeks. I will keep a few games and mags, but hopefully the bulk will have been sold. (Flashpoint Golan seems to be one of those games that no one wants :((  )

With the proceeds, I have now expanded my computer wargame library with a number of new purchases, which include Empire & Napoleon Total War and GG World at War: A world divided - which…

Disabilities and Wargames

Up until a few years ago I was almost exclusively a miniature wargamer. Then in 2008 disaster struck twice, a raging house fire destroyed most of the  miniatures I had taken my lifetime to paint and I was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.. I am no longer capable of painting nor can I handle to many small counters at a sitting. Then I rediscovered block games and found my wargaming niche.Since then I collect block games voraciously and have throughly enjoy them. Favorites include the…

Here I Stand - Man, that is some game!

Marathon Session Sets Up Gaming Group for Future Here I Stand Play

We finally reached the date for our stab at Here I Stand last night. Six area gamers including me filled out all the major power slots and shrink wrap was broken and rules were scrutinized as we were all tackling this deep game for the first time.

I thought out of all the interviews we did at Origins 2012, this past weekend, our interview with our pal Mark Walker at Lock 'n Load would definitely be of interest to the folks here at CSW. ;)

Getting Ready for Here I Stand

Keeping fingers crossed, but it looks like we our gaming group may be able to pull of a game of GMT's here I stand next weekend. Looks like it will be a marathon session from early afternoon to midnight. We might even have a full compliment of players! Looks to be an exciting time given the ample praise the game gets. However, in addition to learning this deep game I need to brush up on my Reformation period history! Game Resources:…
