Digital dropbox

Been looking for a long time for an easy method to transfer large files - mostly PDFs of Rulebooks to friends I play games with so they can read rules before we play from older titles.

Eden War Room in the News

My lovely wife, who fully supports my hobby and likes all my wargaming friends, has been for months trying to get a reporter for the News and Record to do a story on the Eden War Room.

She finally succeeded two weeks ago.

Read all about it here:

Apologies who already heard about this on the BGG.

The Eden War Room in the Newspaper.

http://www.news-record.com/content/2009/05/21/article/friends_strategize_and_socialize_weekly_at_the_eden_war_room

My wife's reporter friend has been interested in doing a story on our War Room, and it was published today. She fortunately picked a very busy day - 8 of us playing that day. Usually it is just 4 or 5 of us.

This day of gaming also included a reunion of the Bayside High School class of '82 wargamers - all 3 of us.

Clinton Resigns - The Nation of Obama is shocked.

Washington

Due to a conflict of interest, in that no serious diplomat is interested in what she has to say, Billary has stepped down.

Hillary Clinton, aware she is way out of her league, has embraced Scientology, now wears a top hat, and has joined the Circus.

Has the Negative Economy affected you personally?

Well, it has me . My wife was laid off (workforce reduction as they call it) from her job as a the Community Outreach person for our local 'branch' of the Smart Start. No Child Left Behind shop - the Rockingham County Partnership for Children.

The women who runs the place, btw, is a single mother, lives in a commune, has her child home schooled (despite the mission of her unit to promote public services) and recently has a court date for misdemeanor passing of bad… Continue

The End of Yard Sales and EBay Auctions?

Can our current gov't be any more idiotic? Apparently, it can.

-----------------------

The Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act, passed by Congress in August, goes into effect February 10. Among other things, it mandates all childrens' products, toys, clothes, books, etc. are tested for toxic lead and phthalates, chemicals used in plastic. Store owners must present a certificate proving the products were tested.

How to Destroy the Earth

"Destroying the Earth is harder than you may have been led to believe.

You've seen the action movies where the bad guy threatens to destroy the Earth. You've heard people on the news claiming that the next nuclear war or cutting down rainforests or persisting in releasing hideous quantities of pollution into the atmosphere threatens to end the world.

Fools.

The Earth is built to last. It is a 4,550,000,000-year-old, 5,973,600,000,000,000,000,000-tonne ball of… Continue

How I met a wargamer in Split, Croatia and the postive aspects of it all

1995, East Carolina University:

One day, while a Student at ECU, I need to use a PC to write an English Paper, but I found all the Windows machines were used up, mostly by Netscape users (it was 1995, and the Web was shiny new).

So, I walked into the Vax/VMS dumb terminal room to fire up Vi to write my paper and then I would Z-Modem it later into Word.

I needed to do a little research, so Vax/VMS was just fine for using Gopherspace and I would use Lynx - the… Continue

Time to get Rid of the Monsterous Classics

Our group prefers playing games, and I have a collection of 'the unplayable'.

We have had many discussions, and we have found we prefer games we can play in not more than a few sessions (4-6 at most for about 20-40 hours TPT).

Recently, a lot of Great Wargames new to the hobby have come out, and we've pretty much decided that many of the old Monsters are simply not worth the time to play, have become obsolete, or are simply too big.

Now, some might not agree… Continue
