Leuthen!

After four plays, I think Leuthen from Victory Point Games is a great little gem. With little space, very few units and few and easy rules you get everything you need from a wargame: fog of war, different units with different strenghts/weaknesses against other units and terrain, morale and cohesion, very clever tactical cards system, hard decisions to take, manoeuvring and good historical flavour. It has a very good replayability. In my four plays I have faced very different situations, with…

Warriors of God: my thoughts

Yesterday I managed to play a complete game of Warriors of God with my wargame-buddy Luca.

Actually, we played two times before, in a game club, but we could not get to the last turn before the closing time...

I played the English, Luca played the French. I won on points (four or five, I don't rememeber exactly).

We had a very good time. Probably WoG is the most enjoyable wargame I have ever played.

There's a lot of narrative, a lot of twists. The leader death phase is…

How I learned to stop worrying and love wargaming

I come from an "eurogames" background, so in my first steps through the world of wargaming I was worried about the lengthy rulebooks, with a lot of exceptions and complicated rules.

Probably the game that helped me more in getting into wargaming was Victory at Midway, from Command Magazine #14.
I played VaM solo, but I think it's better face to face. Anyway I was very satisfied of the game, just because of the rules: they're clearly written, well organized and...…

A House Divided: second game

Second game for my friend Luca and me.
I play the North he plays the South.
June 1862: Washington falls, the South wins.

I lost in a very stupid way.
I was very aggressive and tried to push through Cairo: I conquered Memphis and Nashville, but I didn't manage to go beyond and seriuosly threaten the South.
In the last three turn, Luca used very wisely a couple of crack units and conquered Baltimore. Then he finished Washington…

Translation finished!

I've translated No Retreat! cards in Italian. I'm currently working on a simple graphic reproduction of the cards, to print them and actually use them.
I'll upload them on BGG as soon as possible.

A House Divided: first game

First game for me and my friend Luca this evening.
I have the 2nd edition, but we used 3.1v living rules (see this page).
We used the following advanced rules:

I played the Union and Luca played the Confederate.
The…

No Retreat! card translation

I've started to translate No Retreat! cards in Italian.
I'm planning to translate 5 cards/day so it should be done in 5 days: more haste, less speed...

I don't know how many people will be interested in this translation, but I'd like to play the game with my father who does not speak English.
