What exactly constitutes a friend? Everyone calls the people that they know "friends" but is that really the case? How do you differentiate a friend from an acquaintance? This is how I do it. Probably not correct, nothing new in that now is there?, but here we go:
A friend is someone who does not wait for you to call them, they call you.
Someone who just drops by, unexpectedly, to say hello and see how you're doing.
A friend is someone who no matter how mad they may be, does not stop talking to you and even though they're angry, they find a way to work through it with you.
A friend is someone who trusts you, because they know that you only ever have their best interests at heart.
A friend is someone who supports you, even after they tell you why they may not agree with you, and does not tell you I told you so if something goes wrong.
A friend is someone who is in regular contact with you, even if they are thousands of miles away. They keep you close in their thoughts and they do the things listed above.
A friend is someone who does not try to change you, to mold you into what they think you should be. Someone who likes you, loves you for who and what you are. Even the ugly parts that we all have as part of our personalities.
Friends, I believe, are the rarest of jewels because few are the people that can do the things above consistently. The rest of the people we know are acquaintances. People we like, people we may occasionally do things with or talk with, but they just don't fit all the things above.
A very wise man told me shortly before his death that " A tuly lucky man is one who on his deathbed, can count on the fingers of one hand the number of true friends he has had in his life."
I hope that you are blessed and that you are able to have a full hand when you finish your course..
