Scenario 5 Arnot’s Ambush AAR
Arnot’s Ambush sees a French Resistance attack on an unsuspecting German patrol. This is one of the smallest, quickest and craziest scenarios in the game – all hell breaks loose on turn 1! I won’t go too much into the special scenario rules and such as these are still in flux but the French get to act first and after the first couple of French actions all the Germans flip to their defensive stance. Here’s what happened in a recent playtest.
The scenario begins with the French waiting for the patrol. The facing and direction of the patrol is randomly generated.
The French to the left of the screen opened fire on turn one. Their fire was not very effective and the French facing the front of the patrol suffered from returning fire. With the front of the patrol occupied Marie and Joseph approached from the rear and used the fallen tree as cover. François also jumped into the stream (top right of screen)
A close up of the action around the tree trunk. Marie dispatched Fischer but Joseph fell to the return fire.
With the Germans busy trying to reorganise themselves Claude and Baptiste rushed into the stream.
The Germans recovered a little and took the fallen tree position and set up a defensive line. The remaining Germans in the stream were seriously wounded and were quickly dispatched.
The remaining Germans made a break for their designated map edge – this was secretly chosen by the Germans at the start of the scenario. Only three made it off the map - a resounding victory for the French.
