I'd forgotten about this one from the 80s but stumbled accross it while crusing YouTube:

"Elton John singing to a woman with a guys name...just as funny as the guys in my unit in the UK who thought that Boy George was a "doable" woman, until they found out who he/she was!"

Hmm kind of reminds me of Panama and how we used to "introduce" the new guys to the Cuacos downtown...

How about the old Beatles song "Back in the USSR"? One of the reasons why there are so many hot looking women coming out of the old Warsaw Pact countries, according to one article I read, was that during the Cold War there wasn't a career path for hot looking women. Now that they have been exposed to Western Consumerism being attractive is a useful attribute and commodity so you see more attractive women.

She couldn't have been Russian/Soviet either. When I was a teenager roaming around Moscow and Leningrad in 1977, you saw the difference between Russian girls in high school and those who had just left high school...the latter grew quite stout. No more mandatory gymnastics, I guess. Plus there wasn't much for the working girl's diet beyond black bread, potatoes, a bit of fish, beer, and vodka (the domestic stuff was pretty foul).

It's definately a strange video. I remember first seeing it when I was stationed in Germany. Some of the guys who had pulled duty in Berlin said that there's no way the woman in the video could have been a real East German- too good looking and not built like a Mack Truck! :-)

The girl had a guy's name. Coincidence, Sir Elton?

It's a maudlin relic, kind of interesting when East Germany has had twenty years to rot in its well-deserved grave.

And not even in the 21st Century... :-) Like a lot about the Cold War, things never happened and in this case, it's probably for the best.

Elton John fawning over a woman wasn't even believable in the 80s.
