One of the challenges that I find that I'm always having to deal with is: "How do I balance all of my hobbies?"

I love to read. I have almost 400 books that I have not cracked cover on and I am always adding more.
I play ASL and other Wargames
I play World Of Warcraft and Lord of the Rings Online
I play PS2, XBox, and XBox 360
I play Civilivation IV, Rise of Nations, Age Of Empires III

So how do you manage to squeeze everything in? Fortunately my wife is a gamer and a big reader so these hobbies work for her too. But spending almost 60 hours a week at work or commuting to and from takes up a big chunk of my time.

Then there is taking care of the house, the yard, the pets...There goes more time..

How do you other grogs get it all in?

I've met some other folks who don't own TVs. Wife and I have a movie addiction so we'd never get by without one. But all told, we spend more time with it on while we sit and read books than we do actually watching it.

Not having a TV is definite plus. We were once interviwed by the local newspaper for a double page spread given this wierd behaviour. Haven't had one for 20 yrs of marriage and can't see this changing anytime soon...

Whoops... I think I just deleted my post. Okay - second try...

#1 - No TV at our house. That frees up a lot of time.
#2 - No other hobbies at our house.
#3 - #2 is a lie. (But so close to the truth that it's hard to tell somedays.)
If I get in the mood to do something non-game related, I give my spouse a few days lead time to set up something else to fill his time with. (This doesn't happen often, I usually prefer to play.) Then I [try to] refuse to do anything that is not on my agenda for that time. I can be distracted by online research, ConSimWorld, BGG, etc. But I have found that if I really stick to my scheduled time, I can get plenty of time for my other hobbies to get things done.

Hey John, just so I know...what kind of beer do you drink? Scotch? Bourbon? Want to ensure my bar is adequately stocked to handle any and all requirements. Oh, and what cigars do you favor. I'm not kidding. Just ask Tom Meier....

I'm finding I have less time on my hands then ever before. I'm single again so my gaming and reading is the main fun things for me. But with my playtesting and now designing for VPG I find even less time for my own time. I always have a prodject on the table and not a fun for me game anymore. I really don't know how the big name designers ever found the time for themselves.wish they would let us in on it. Heck, I don't know how John Kranz even finds the time!

Eric, okay, I'm moving in with you. U-Haul truck should be pulling up this afternoon ;-)

Ask me this question again when I'm retired. Of course if it were up to me, I'd love to publish and run CSW full-time, but the income requirement isn't something I envision remotely possible.

I have perhaps the sweetest deal of anyone. My deploying days are apparently over. I have no children (married very late because I was always deployed or otherwise gone). My wife works retail, so she has to work evenings and weekends from time to time. So those hours are free for me to do wargaming stuff. I generally get my reading done while on business trips/vacations...but I'm a speed reader so that helps. I live in a huge house on a very small plot of land, so yardwork is done in about an our. No pets. The house is brand spanking new, so there's little for me to do on it. Lastly and perhaps most importantly, my wife is (1) very patient and supportive, and (2) very forgiving when I screw up. Like I said, I have the sweetest deal of anyone....
