i just got the first ed. of this-had the 3rd ed as a kid and remembered it as a good solo game. just playing the basic ver.-it;s a lot of fun-there is some deep weirdness in the writing of the rules and charts-the turn card reads right to left?? having said that it is easy enough once you "get" it. the controversial visual of the mapboard is really not a factor-it looks weird from far away better up close. and up close is how you spend most off your time trying to find a potential breach and just the right hex that blocks multiple roads and gives double or triple defense. after just a few turns it struck me that many early AH games (anzio/a.k./esp.) have this uncanny ability to convey quick
changes in fortune. after turn 1 it looked not so good for the axis, after turn 2 the allies are going to struggle-amazing. still the best game on the whole campaign that i know of....

yea it definitely keeps your interest. funny i remember this as slow moving, but there is actually a lot of lateral movement on the" boot".you can also "save" replacement points which is another area of strategy....

The quick change in fortunes that a game can allow lends to an exciting wargame. Race for Tunis was like that when I played it
