Went out to play Virgin Queen opposed.

Full table of players. We only got a few turns in
(in many hours), but this is the type of gaming &
group that I should like.

Instead though, I'm just fatigued. Much as from
the couple other times I've done opposed play
in the last couple years (other than with the wife).

Beginning to think that I've just become too asocial to really enjoy anymore.

Just high hopes really. Higher than can be met.

As always.

People's lives don't match mine really. Outside of gaming, there
doesn't seem to be any connection. That's me.

Did you have any food whilst you were out?  I don't think it sounds like asocialness- maybe hyper-socialness (if you're asocial, you just dig on the game and don't worry about the people).

I'd like to meet one day and see how we might get along...

Ah, there was nothing wrong with the folk I was playing with -

it's just me. I think I've gotten to the point where I just can't

bother anymore. If anything, I'm the asocial one.

There ain't many people I 'click' with. I think this group would've

been fine, if I was there with one of that small selection, but I haven't

met anyone quite like that since I moved here - who lives here (met a couple

at CSWExpo - but not locals).

I can understand how some gamers can turn you off to face to face play. Some players are, simply put, Asocial personalities. There are a number of us though who are easy going and flexable. We tend to end up with long term gaming relations and the friendship usually ooses into other things.

Enrico - The fastest way to avoid gaming with "strangers" is to get to know them and make them "friends."

I know how you feel. I'm very social and enjoy "hanging" and talking shop about wargames until the wee hours. I found myself a few years ago in a bad situation when I attended a local game club meeting. I do not care for the Napoleonic era of wargaming (sorry guys) and after asked to play an old SPI Napoleonic game politely did so and hated every minute. I was always looking to other players activities and not into the game in front of me at all. Perhaps this is all you had going on Enrico?

If it weren't for the possibility of entering into such a situation,

I simply wouldn't bother. I far prefer gaming alone to gaming with strangers.

I LIKE downtime - but I like it a lot more hanging with people I know well.

What hurt was causing downtime, trying to figure out what to do.

In a traditional game, once you know whom you're fighting, you can just act,

but these CDGs offer so many actions, that AP sets in for me.

Depending on the design of the game. Angola!, for example, kept me fully interested in what was happening during the other 3 players' turns. And the move planning mechanic via arranging one's hand of cards meant that the actual player moves were quick.
