Has the Negative Economy affected you personally?

Well, it has me . My wife was laid off (workforce reduction as they call it) from her job as a the Community Outreach person for our local 'branch' of the Smart Start. No Child Left Behind shop - the Rockingham County Partnership for Children.

The women who runs the place, btw, is a single mother, lives in a commune, has her child home schooled (despite the mission of her unit to promote public services) and recently has a court date for misdemeanor passing of bad checks.

Also this person is known to not own a car, using the state provided vehicle for personal transport, as well as the cell phone, digital camera, etc, and is known to 'fluff' expenditures for small things to buy personal items.

My wife tried to whistle blow this several months back, but the Auditor she spoke to reported that it was such 'small change' that it was not worth the State pursuing.

Oh yeah, her best friend is the President of the board that backs/grants the unit.

Am I bitter - damned right!

Freedom is the disease in two many people's eyes.

It's strange too, that many of the same individuals who rant about diversity in the workplace draw the line when it comes to ideological and political diversity. Then it becomes a matter of orthodoxy.

Thankfully the school that I consider my home base is dominated by a much better sort of liberal. They knew who and what I was, accepted that I was a conservative who voted Republican and supported Israel, and hired me anyway. Now I'm developing a military history course for the fall 2009 semester, with nothing but truly constructive suggestions.

Well, it has led to a slew of emails from my leftist friends who blame all the Libertarians in government for the current mess. That's kind of a bummer. I suspect strongly that inflation will wipe me out. Then I'll be able to return to this post and make an update.

Funny you should say that - my wife had taken grief expressing her Republican/Conservative views while the Liberal views were often relished and seen favorably while working there.

BTW, we will be OK.

The wife made a lot of contacts in that job - she is an associate Director of a local Charter Middle School (a volunteer position), a memeber of the Chamber of commerce (as a result and need of her job), and has a Thursday morning radio show with a small local station that is about our county.

She grew up around here, is very sweet, knows how to throw a party, fully supports my hobby, likes my wargamer buddies.

We went through a similar experience about 10 years ago when I was laid off from a Construction company - a blessing in disguise that was, as now I do IT/Email Administration/Security work in the UNC system for 8 years now.

A few year after that, she got downsized out of Aramark, and got in very bad shape due to her Father suddenly passing away in 2002.

We always prevail and hang in there.

It's amazing how we overlook transgressions like that - for when it is a pattern you wonder what else is there. I am sorry to hear about that.

That totally sucks. If you or your wife used state funds to steal a cookie, or were caught praying in an office, I'm sure it would be more than "small change" and you'd be burned at the stake, possibly worse.
