Carl,

Didn't you used to snack on small pieces of ginger?  Shaped by my Korean-born wife's dietary wisdom, I myself have added ginger to my diet (and spices galore).

I live in Edgewater near Annapolis and run a strategy gaming club for kids that meets biweekly.  Being mostly high-schoolers they still like plastic-mini games like Axis & Allies, Memoir 44 and Battlecry!, although I have had some luck moving them into hex-and-counter stuff.

Adult-wise, I'm currently gaming with an 18th-19th-century specialist with strong age-of-sail expertise.  We recently resumed our acquaintance with WS&IM.  He's refamiliarizing me with the arcana of wind, waves, sail and rig, which is helpful since at the moment, as a vehicle toward self-sustaining retirement (the bureaucracy hates brainiacs today even worse than it did in your era), I'm trying my hand at drafting up a novel that requires some expertise in such matters.  It'll be a sim-centric novel, although some of the wargaming will by physically active.

I'm also involved in learning Liberty Roads at the hands of a master of that game.  It's a great wargame but not such a great simulation.

Did you ever meet Mark Stille?  (Actually, he was still active on sea duty when you were at ONI.)  Big naval expert; has written numerous works, especially on the IJN, for Osprey.  He'll be heading out to the Annapolis area soon and he and a group of fellows intend to actually play the latest version on SPI/DG's massive WitP.  (At least as of our last email exchanges.)  It'll be weekend gaming.  If you'd like to join our email distro I'd be delighted to add you (I'm at StrategyGaming21@gmail.com).

Best wishes for a happy, healthy, victorious New Year!!  Tim

Carl,

Tim Smith.  We met a couple of decades ago at ONI.  I see you're still GBoHin' it.  Not surprised you're an OCS fan as well.  I'm enjoying my first exposure via 'Case Blue'.  I'm one of Stalin's men, it's August '42, and I have a well-earned case of the blues.  Hopefully things will turn around or it's a shovel and off to the Gulag for me.

I hope and trust you're doing well.  Where are you located these days?  I'm in Edgewater, Md.

     R/Tim

Hi Carl. I seem to remember playing STALINGRAD POCKET with you many, many years ago when I was living in Arlington VA!
